RESUMO O objetivo foi avaliar os efeitos de uma subdose de hCG aplicada no acuponto Hou Hai na qualidade do corpo lúteo (CL) e na indução da ovulação em éguas. Quinze éguas mestiças foram distribuídas em blocos ao acaso, sendo o período utilizado como fator de blocagem, em: T1 = 1500 UI de hCG por via intravenosa (IV); T2 = 450 UI de hCG aplicado no falso acuponto (IV) e T3 = 450 UI de hCG aplicada no acuponto Hou Hai. Avaliou-se diâmetro médio do CL, concentração sérica de progesterona (P4), vascularização do folículo pré-ovulatório e do CL. As fêmeas que receberam 450 UI de hCG no acuponto Hou Hai apresentaram maiores taxas de ovulação (33,33%) 48h após a indução. O número de pixels coloridos (NPC) mínimo do folículo pré-ovulatório das fêmeas do grupo controle foi superior (40,33) ao das éguas que receberam 450 UI de hCG IV no falso acuponto (36,84) e semelhante ao das éguas que receberam hCG no acuponto Hou Hai (39,31); correlações moderadamente positivas foram encontradas entre o diâmetro do CL e a concentração de P4, ambos no D8 (P <0,05). A administração IV de 450 UI de hCG ou no acuponto Hou Hai foi eficiente na indução da ovulação e na garantia da qualidade do CL nas éguas.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of an hCG sub dose applied at the Hou Hai acupoint on corpus luteum (CL) quality and ovulation induction in mares. Fifteen crossbred mares were distributed in randomized blocks and used in three periods with each period employed as the blocking factor in three treatments: T1 = 1500 IU of hCG via intravenous (IV); T2 = 450 IU of hCG applied at the false acupoint (IV); and T3 = 450 IU of hCG applied at the Hou Hai acupoint. Mean diameter of the CL, serum concentration of progesterone (P4), vascularization of the pre-ovulatory follicle and CL were evaluated. Females administered 450 IU of hCG at the Hou Hai acupoint exhibited greater ovulation rates (33.33%) 48h after induction; The minimum number of colored pixel (NCP) of the pre-ovulatory follicle of control females was superior (40.33) to that of mares administered 450 IU of hCG IV at the false acupoint (36.84) and similar to that of those administered hCG at the Hou Hai acupoint (39.31). Further, moderately positive correlations were found between the CL diameter and the P4 concentration on D8 (P<0.05). IV administration of 450 IU of hCG or at the Hou Hai acupoint was efficient at inducing ovulation and ensuring the quality of CL in mares.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do ácido docosa-hexaenoico (DHA), associado ou não ao Trolox®, na refrigeração de sêmen de garanhões da raça Mangalarga Marchador. Foram refrigerados 10 ejaculados nos diluidores: D1) BotuSêmen® (BS; controle); D2) BS + 30ngmL-1 de DHA (BS30DHA); D3) BS30DHA + 40µM de Trolox® (BS30DHA40T); D4) BS + 50ngmL-1 de DHA (BS50DHA); D5) BS50DHA + 40µM de Trolox® (BS50DHA40T). Após 48 horas de refrigeração, foram avaliados os parâmetros de movimento espermático, a integridade estrutural e funcional da membrana plasmática e a longevidade espermática. Todos os diluidores testados preservaram, de forma semelhante, a motilidade, a linearidade, a retilinearidade, a amplitude do deslocamento lateral da cabeça, a frequência do batimento flagelar cruzado, o percentual de hiperativos e a integridade estrutural e funcional da membrana espermática (P>0,05). O diluidor BS50DHA foi superior ao BS30DHA40T em preservar a VCL e a VSL e foi superior ao BS30DHA40T e ao BS50DHA40T em preservar a VAP e o índice de oscilação (P<0,05). Conclui-se que o uso do Trolox® em diluidores utilizados para refrigeração de sêmen de garanhões contendo ácido docosa-hexaenoico, nas concentrações propostas, não é indicado por alterar parâmetros de movimento espermático considerados importantes para a fertilidade.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), associated or not with Trolox®, in extenders for cooling semen from Mangalarga Marchador stallions. Ten ejaculates were cooled in the following diluents: D1) BotuSemen® (BS; control); D2) BS + 30ngmL-1 DHA (BS30DHA); D3) BS30DHA + 40μM Trolox® (BS30DHA40T); D4) BS + 50ngmL-1 DHA (BS50DHA); D5) BS50DHA + 40μM Trolox® (BS50DHA40T). After 48 hours of refrigeration, the sperm movement, structural and functional integrity of the plasma membrane and sperm longevity were evaluated. All extenders tested similarly preserved motility, linearity, straightness of trajectory, amplitude of lateral head displacement, beat cross frequency, hyperactive, the structural and functional integrity of the sperm membrane (P> 0.05). The BS50DHA extender was superior to BS30DHA40T in preserving VCL and VSL and was superior to BS30DHA40T and BS50DHA40T in preserving VAP and oscillation index (P< 0.05). It is concluded that the use of Trolox® in extenders for cooling stallion sperm containing docosahexaenoic acid at the proposed concentrations is not indicated because it alters sperm movement parameters considered important for fertility.

RESUMO Avaliaram-se diferentes momentos de aplicação da gonadotrofina coriônica equina (eCG) em protocolos de inseminação artificial em tempo fixo (IATF) para vacas de leite. Foram utilizadas 76 fêmeas, as quais receberam, no dia zero (D0) do protocolo, dispositivos intravaginais de progesterona, sendo esses retirados no D9, e os animais foram, então, distribuídos aleatoriamente em três tratamentos: T1 - aplicação de eCG no momento da retirada dos dispositivos; T2 e T3 - aplicação de eCG 48h e 24h antes da retirada dos dispositivos, respectivamente. No D10 os animais receberam 1mg de GnRH, e a IATF foi realizada 52 horas após a retirada do implante. Não houve diferença (P>0,05) para intervalo entre a retirada do implante à ovulação (72,56±3,92h), o diâmetro do maior folículo no D9 (10,88±1,49mm), o diâmetro do folículo ovulatório (15,15±1,16mm) e do segundo maior folículo (7,49±0,52mm), a taxa de crescimento folicular (1,38±0,04mm/dia), a taxa de ovulação (96,67%), o intervalo entre diâmetro final e inicial do folículo dominante (73,49±3,84h), a área de corpo lúteo (2,27±0,43cm²), a porcentagem de CL no ovário direito (53,00%) e no esquerdo (26,33%) e a taxa de gestação (33,33%). O momento da aplicação da eCG não influenciou na eficiência do protocolo. Recomenda-se a utilização da eCG no momento da retirada do implante por otimização do manejo.

ABSTRACT Different times of application of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) in Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI) protocols for dairy cows were evaluated. A total of 76 females were used, which received intravaginal progesterone devices on day zero (D0) of the protocol, which were withdrawn on D9, and the animals were then randomly distributed in three treatments: T1- application of eCG at the time of device withdrawal; T2 and T3 - application of eCG 48h and 24h before withdrawal of the devices, respectively. On D10 the animals received 1mg of GnRH and the FTAI was carried out 52 hours after the removal of the implant. There was no difference (P>0.05) for interval from implant removal to ovulation (72.56±3.92h), diameter of the largest follicle of D9 (10.88±1.49mm), diameters of ovulatory follicle (15.15±1.16mm) and of the second largest follicle (7.49±0.52mm), follicle growth rate (1.38±0.04mm/day), ovulation rate (96.67%), interval between final diameter and initial diameter of dominant follicle (73.49±3.84h), corpus luteum area (2.27±0.43cm²), percentage of CL in right ovary (53.00%) and in left ovary (26.33%) and pregnancy rate (33.33%). The time of the application of eCG did not influence the efficiency of the protocol. We recommend the use of eCG at the time of the removal of the implant for management optimization.

RESUMO O objetivo da presente pesquisa foi avaliar o efeito da inclusão de semente de linhaça na dieta sobre a qualidade seminal e o perfil metabólico de machos caprinos. Foram utilizados 16 machos da raça Saanen, distribuídos aleatoriamente em quatro grupos, recebendo níveis de inclusão de semente de linhaça (0, 4, 8 e 12%) na dieta, durante um período de 60 dias. As coletas e as avaliações seminais foram realizadas duas vezes por semana. Os animais foram submetidos a coletas quinzenais de sangue, durante todo o período experimental. Os dados foram avaliados por ANOVA e pela análise de regressão a 5% de significância. Houve comportamento cúbico para motilidade espermática progressiva, que apresentou o maior valor (82,30%) com a adição de 9,92% de semente de linhaça na dieta (P<0,05). Houve comportamento cúbico para concentração plasmática de triglicerídeos, e o nível de 8% de semente de linhaça na dieta apresentou média de 43,32mg dL-1, acima dos valores normais para a espécie caprina (P<0,05). A inclusão de semente de linhaça na dieta de machos caprinos proporcionou melhora na produção espermática e na qualidade seminal. No entanto, devem-se considerar os possíveis efeitos dos níveis superiores a 4% de semente de linhaça sobre o perfil metabólico dos animais.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effect of flaxseed inclusion in the diet of male goats through the semen quality and metabolic profile. Randomly allocated 16 Saanen males were placed into four groups receiving flaxseed inclusion levels (0, 4, 8 and 12%) in the diet over a period of 60 days. The collections and seminal evaluations were performed twice a week. The animals were subjected to biweekly blood collections from the beginning to the end of the trial period. The data were evaluated by ANOVA and regression analysis at 5% significance. A cubic behavior for motility, with the highest value (82.30%) with the addition of 9.92% of flaxseed in the diet (P< 0.05) was detected. A cubic behavior for plasma triglyceride concentration and the level of 8% of flaxseed in the diet averaged 43.32mg dL -1 above normal values for goats (P< 0.05) was detected. The inclusion of flaxseed in the diet of male goats improved sperm production and quality. However, one should consider the possible effects of the levels above 4% of flaxseed on the metabolic profile of the animals.

RESUMO Avaliou-se a eficiência da administração de subdoses de eCG nos acupontos Bai Hui e Hou Hai em protocolos de sincronização de estro em cabras. Na primeira etapa, 57 cabras foram distribuídas aleatoriamente em quatro tratamentos: T1- 300UI de eCG intramuscular (IM); T2- 60UI de eCG no acuponto Hou Hai; T3- 60UI de eCG no acuponto Bai Hui e T4- 60UI de eCG IM; e na segunda etapa, 28 cabras foram distribuídas aleatoriamente em três tratamentos: T1- 300UI de eCG IM; T2- 30UI de eCG no acuponto Bai Hui e T3- 30UI de eCG IM. Ao final do tratamento hormonal, as cabras foram monitoradas para detecção do estro, realização das coberturas e avaliação do comportamento reprodutivo. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de normalidade, seguida dos testes estatísticos adequados para cada variável. Na primeira etapa experimental, obteve-se maior duração de estro nas cabras do T1 (P=0,009). Na segunda etapa experimental, obteve-se maior número de animais em estros no T1 (P=0,03). As demais variáveis para ambas as etapas não sofreram influência dos tratamentos (P>0,05), demonstrando que a administração de subdoses de eCG nos acupontos Bai Hui e Hou Hai foi eficiente para sincronizar o estro.

ABSTRACT The efficiency of administration of subdoses of eCG in the Bai Hui and Hou Hai acupoints in oestrus synchronization protocols in goats was evaluated. In the first stage, 57 goats were randomly assigned to four treatments: T1- 300UI of intramuscular eCG (IM); T2- 60UI of eCG in acupoint Hou Hai; T3- 60UI of eCG in the Bai Hui acupoint and T4- 60UI of eCG IM; and in the second stage, 28 goats were randomly assigned to three treatments: T1-300UI of eCG IM; T2-30UI of eCG in the Bai Hui acupoint and T3- 30UI of eCG IM. At the end of the hormonal treatment the goats were monitored for estrus detection, and evaluation of reproductive behavior. The data were submitted to normality analysis, followed by appropriate statistical tests for each variable. In the first experimental stage, a longer duration of estrus in the T1 goats (P= 0.009) was obtained. In the second experimental stage, a greater number of animals were obtained in estrus at T1 (P= 0.03). The other variables for both experiments were not influenced by the treatments (P> 0.05), demonstrating that administration of eCG subdoses in the Bai Hui and Hou Hai acupoints was efficient to synchronize the estrus.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito da inclusão de óleo de peixe associado ao ácido ascórbico no diluidor para criopreservação de sêmen caprino. Dois machos da raça Boer foram submetidos à coleta de sêmen pelo método de vagina artificial, sendo os ejaculados avaliados quanto aos aspectos físicos e morfológicos. Após avaliação, formou-se um pool, seguido do fracionamento em cinco grupos: G1 - diluidor citrato-gema e G2, G3, G4 e G5 - diluidor citrato-gema acrescido de 1,0; 2,0; 3,0 e 4,0% de óleo de peixe e 0,05% de ácido ascórbico, respectivamente. Após descongelamento, foram realizadas avaliações físicas do sêmen e os testes complementares de termorresistência lento (TTR), hiposmótico (HO), integridade acrossomal e compactação da cromatina espermática. Houve comportamento linear crescente (P<0,05) para motilidade pós-descongelamento. Não houve diferença (P>0,05) para vigor pós-descongelamento (2,00±0,24). No TTR não houve diferença (P>0,05) para motilidade e vigor espermáticos entre os tempos cinco e 180min, com médias inicial e final de 62,17±12,13 e 14,29±10,55 para motilidade e de 2,00±0,52 e 0,49±0,44 para vigor. Não houve diferença (P>0,05) para o HO, com porcentagem média de espermatozoides reativos de 23,5±5,96%. Houve comportamento linear crescente para acrossoma íntegro e decrescente para acrossoma irregular (P<0,05). Não houve diferença (P>0,05) na compactação da cromatina, com 97,06±1,17% de cromatina íntegra. A inclusão até 4% de óleo de peixe acrescido de ácido ascórbico no diluidor melhorou motilidade e integridade de acrossoma após a criopreservação.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to evaluate the effect of fish oil inclusion associated with ascorbic acid in the thinner for goat semen cryopreservation. Two male Boers underwent semen collection through the artificial vagina method, ejaculates being then assessed for physical and morphological aspects. After evaluation, a pool was formed, followed by the split into five groups: G1 - yolk-citrate extender and G2, G3, G4 and G5 - yolk-citrate extender plus 1.0; 2.0; 3.0 and 4.0% fish oil and 0.05% ascorbic acid, respectively. After thawing, physical evaluations of semen were assessed and additional testing slow heat resistance (TTR), hiposmotic (HO), acrosome integrity and compression of sperm chromatin. There was linear increase (P<0.05) post-thaw motility. No difference was obtained for post-thaw vigor and there was no influence of the association of fish oil and ascorbic acid in TTR. Plasma membrane integrity, by hyposmotic test (HO), presented a mean of reactive spermatozoa of 23.5±5.96% (P>0.05). There was linear increase for intact acrosome and decreasing acrosome irregular (P<0.05). In the analysis of the chromatin compaction, approximately 3% of damages (P>0.05) were observed. The inclusion of 4% fish oil plus ascorbic acid in diluter improved motility and acrosome integrity after cryopreservation.

RESUMO O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência da condição corporal (CC) ao parto no balanço energético (BE) e o desempenho reprodutivo de cabras Alpinas no pós-parto. Foram utilizadas 68 cabras distribuídas em três grupos (G), sendo: G1- cabras com baixa CC (CC entre 1,5 e 2,5); G2: cabras com moderada CC (entre 2,75 e 3,5) e G3: cabras com alta CC (entre 3,75 e 5,0). Os animais receberam dieta (silagem de milho e concentrado, com 18% de proteína bruta e 1,7Mcal/kg de matéria seca de energia líquida) ad libitum. As avaliações foram feitas nas oito primeiras semanas de lactação, para determinação do BE, do intervalo do parto à primeira ovulação e ao primeiro estro e da concentração plasmática de progesterona. Os dados foram analisados por análise de variância a 5% de probabilidade. Não houve efeito da CC ao parto sobre o BE dos animais. Todas as cabras apresentaram BE negativo ao parto, com mudança para BE positivo aos 51, 58 e 64 dias pós-parto, respectivamente. Não houve diferença na concentração plasmática de progesterona nos três grupos, sendo caracterizada função luteal (concentração ≥1ng/dL) em apenas 5,9% dos animais avaliados. O intervalo do parto à primeira ovulação foi de 46 dias. Apenas 4,4% das cabras exibiram estro. Cabras leiteiras de média produção, entre 2,5 e 3,0kg de leite/dia, entram em BE negativo ao parto, independentemente da CC apresentada, influenciando negativamente o reinício da atividade ovariana no pós-parto.

ABSTRACT The concentration of progesterone in the blood was used to study the effect of body condition score (BCS) on the post-partum ovarian activity of dairy goats. Sixty-eight female goats were distributed between three treatments. Treatment 1: goats with BCS between 1.00 and 2.75; Treatment 2: goats with BCS between 2.75 and 3.50; and Treatment 3: goats with BCS between 3.50 and 5.00. The goats had the blood collected immediately after birth, and from that time up to the eighth week post-partum at three day intervals. The progesterone analysis on the blood was used to determine the interval between the birth and the first ovulation. The females were teasing two times per day for estrus detection and determination of the time interval from birth to first estrus. No significant difference was found on the progesterone concentration between treatments. The luteal functionality was characterized in only 5.9% of goats, with a concentration higher than 1ng/mL. The period from birth to first ovulation was 46 days. The detectable estrus was found in only 4.4% of goats. The BCS at birth did not influence the recovery of ovarian activity of dairy goats.

Avaliou-se o efeito da suplementação com geleia real sobre a morfometria do aparelho genital, resposta superovulatória e qualidade embrionária de coelhas. Trinta e seis fêmeas foram distribuídas em quatro grupos (G), sendo: G1 (n=9) formado por animais não suplementados com geleia real, e G2, G3 e G4 (n=9 em cada grupo) por animais suplementados com 10, 20 e 40mg/dia de geleia real. A superovulação consistiu na aplicação de 40UI de gonadotrofina coriônica equina, seguida por 40UI de gonadotrofina coriônica humana, via intramuscular, 48 horas após, e submetidas à cobrição natural. Os animais foram sacrificados, e os embriões coletados 72 horas após a cópula. Não houve diferença estatística entre tratamentos para as variáveis analisadas. O peso médio do aparelho genital foi de 10,88±0,38g; dos ovários - direito e esquerdo -, 0,28±0,02g; e o índice gonadossomático, 0,02±0,0g. O número médio de estruturas totais recuperadas foi de 9,2±1,4; de embriões viáveis, 8,7±1,4; e de degenerados, 0,5±0,2. Dos embriões viáveis, 5,6±0,8 foram classificados como grau I; 2,3±0,5, como grau II; e 0,8±0,2, como grau III. A suplementação com geleia real na dose de até 40mg/dia não apresentou efeito estimulador sobre o aparelho genital e a qualidade embrionária de coelhas.

The purpose of this paper was to assess the effect of supplementation of royal jelly on the morphometry of the genital tract, superovulatory response and embryonic quality in adult rabbits. 36 rabbits were distributed in four groups (G), as follows: G1 (n=9): no supplementation with royal jelly, G2, 3 and 4 (n=9): supplementation with 10, 20 and 40mg/day of royal jelly. The superovulatory protocol consisted in the application of a dose of 40UI of Equine Chorionic Gonadotrophin, followed by a dose of UI of Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin, intramuscularly, 48 hours later, and submitted to natural cover. The animals were euthanasiated and the embryos collected 72 hours after copulation. There was no statistical difference for the analyzed variables (P>0.05). The average weight for the female genital tract was 10.89±0.38g; the average weight of right and left ovaries was 0.28±0.02g and the average gonadosomatic index rate was 0.02±0.0g. The number of total recovered structures was 9.2±1.4. The average number of viable embryos was 8.7±1.4 and of degenerated embryos was 0.5±0.2. Viable embryos were morphologically classified as degree I: 5.6±0.8; degree II: 2.3±0.5; degree III: 0.8±0.2. Royal jelly did not present stimulatory effect on organs related to the reproduction of rabbits, nor was it effective to improve their embryonic quality at dosages of up to 40mg of in natura royal jelly.

Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da geleia real na qualidade seminal e na morfometria testicular de coelhos. Quatorze coelhos adultos da raça Nova Zelândia foram distribuídos em três grupos: com administração diária de 1mL de água, via oral (SG); administração diária de 0,5mg (0,5G) de geleia real diluída em 1mL de água, via oral; e administração diária de 1,0mL (1,0G) de geleia real diluída em 1mL de água, via oral. O fornecimento de geleia real foi iniciado 30 dias antes das coletas de sêmen, permanecendo durante todo o período de coleta, totalizando 90 dias. Utilizou-se o método da vagina artificial para coleta de sêmen. Foram avaliados os parâmetros físicos e morfológicos do sêmen e os parâmetros de morfometria testicular. Houve diferença no volume seminal do 0,5G (0,54±0,22) em relação ao SG (0,39±0,13) e ao 1,0G (0,30±0,09) (P<0,05). Para os grupos SG, 0,5G e 1,0G, não houve diferença (P>0,05) para turbilhonamento espermático, concentração espermática, motilidade progressiva e vigor espermático. Os defeitos maiores no grupo 0,5G (8,52±3,26) foram menores do que nos grupos SG (14,09±4,26) e 1,0G (16,1±3,95) (P<0,05). Não houve diferença entre os defeitos menores e os defeitos totais (P>0,05). Os pesos corporal, testicular, epididimário e o índice gonadossomático não diferiram entre os grupos (P>0,05). A ingestão diária de 0,5mg de geleia real apresentou efeitos positivos na morfologia espermática de coelhos.

A trial was carried out to evaluate the effects of royal jelly on the seminal quality and testicular morphometry of rabbits. Fourteen mature rabbits of New Zealand breed were distributed between three groups. The first group was supplied with 1mL of water only (SG), the second group was supplied with 0.5mg of royal jelly diluted in 1mL of water (0.5G), and the third group was supplied with 1mg of royal jelly also diluted in 1mL of water (1.0G). The royal jelly supply started 30 days before semen collection and lasted the entire experimental period. An artificial vagina was used to collect the rabbits' semen. Physical and morphological parameters in the semen and the testicular morphometry were evaluated. Differences were found on the seminal volume in group 0.5G(0,54±0,22) in relation to SG (0,39±0,13) and 1.0G (0,30±0,09) groups (P<0.05). For SG, 0.5G and 1.0G groups, no differences (P>0.05) were found in sperm concentration, gross motility, individual motility and vigor. The total of primary defects in group 0.5G (8,52±3,26) was lower than in groups SG (14,09±4,2) and 1.0G (16,1±3,95) (P<0.05). No significant difference was found between secondary defects and the total defects on the semen (P>0.05). Body, testicular and epididymal weights did not differ between groups, as well to the gonadosomatic index (P>0.05). The ingestion of royal jelly produced positive results on the seminal production of males.

The aim of this study was to know the best level of inclusion of palm kernel meal in the diet through ingestive behavior, and physiological parameters. Thirty two Santa Ines non castred male sheep, averaging 24,48±3,59 kg of initial body weight were studied. The animals were housed in individual pens, were distribuited in a completely randomized design with four treatments: (0, 6.5, 13.0, and 19.5%). The diets were composed of maize meal, soybean meal, palm kernel meal, mineral premix and Tifton hay as roughage, being provided twice daily, at 9:00 am and 4:00 pm at a ratio of 50:50 roughage concentrate proportion. The experimental period lasted 80 days (10 days for diet and environmental adaptation). The intake of solids and water and performance of animals was evaluated. The animals were weighed at the beginning and end of the experiment and the average daily gain was determined. The ingestion time (min/day) and efficiency of dry matter intake (g/h) showed a quadratic response; rumination time (min/day) and dry matter intake (g/day) showed a negative linear effect; rumination time and consumption of dry matter showed a linear effect and the intake of neutral detergent fiber and rumination efficiency of the fiber showed an increasing linear effect. Levels of palm kernel meal up to 19.5% in the diet did not affect time spent on leisure and total chewing, respiratory frequency, rectal temperature and superficial temperature. However, heart rate behavior decreased linearly with the addition of palm kernel cake in the diet. There was no effect of the addition of palm kernel meal on final weight and average daily gain. The inclusion of palm kernel meal up to 19.5% affects some parameters of ingestive behavior, but does not alter significantly the ingestive behavior. Was not observed any effect of palm kernel meal addition on the number of periods of eating, ruminating or leisure (p>0.05). The environmental variables during the experimental situation provided animal thermal discomfort.

Objetivou-se com este trabalho conhecer o melhor nível de inclusão da torta de dendê na dieta de cordeiros por intermédio do comportamento ingestivo, das respostas fisiológicas e bioclimatológicas. Foram utilizados 32 ovinos machos não castrados da raça Santa Inês com peso vivo inicial de 24,8±3,59 kg, alojados em baias individuais e distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos: (0;6,5;13,0 e 19,5% de torta de dendê) na dieta. As dietas foram compostas de farelo de milho, farelo de soja, torta de dendê, premix mineral e feno de tifton como volumoso, sendo fornecidas duas vezes ao dia, às 9 e 16 h, na proporção de 50:50. O período experimental foi de 80 dias, sendo 10 dias destinados á adaptação dos animais ás dietas e ao ambiente. Foi avaliado o consumo de sólidos e água e o desempenho dos animais. Os animais foram pesados no inicio e no final do experimento e foi determinado o ganho médio diário. O tempo de ingestão e a eficiência de ingestão de matéria seca seguiram comportamento quadrático, o tempo de ruminação e o consumo de matéria seca apresentaram efeito linear decrescente e o consumo de fibra em detergente neutro e eficiência de ruminação da fibra efeito linear crescente. Níveis de torta de dendê de até 19,5% na dieta não influenciam os tempos despendidos com ócio e mastigação total, freqüência respiratória, temperatura retal e temperatura superficial. Porém, a freqüência cardíaca nos dois turnos apresentou comportamento linear decrescente com adição da torta de dendê na dieta. Não houve efeito da adição da torta, peso final e ganho médio diário. A inclusão da torta de dendê em até 19,5% afeta alguns parâmetros de comportamento ingestivo, mas não altera de forma significativa o comportamento ingestivo. Não foi verificado efeito da adição da torta de dendê na dieta no numero de períodos de ingestão, ruminação e ócio (p>0,05). As variáveis ambientais durante o período experimental proporcionaram situação de desconforto térmico aos animais.

Determinou-se o desenvolvimento testicular de caprinos pré-púberes alimentados com óleo de licuri (Syagrus coronata) na dieta. Foram utilizados 19 cabritos ¾ Boer, recém-desmamados, com média de idade de três meses. Os animais, submetidos a um período de 75 dias de confinamento, receberam alimentação composta por: farelo de milho, farelo de soja, feno picado de tifton 85 e de óleo de licuri com base na matéria seca. Os animais foram distribuídos em quatro grupos: sem lipídio adicional (n= 5); com 1,5% de óleo de licuri (n= 5); com 3,0% de óleo de licuri (n= 5); e com 4,5% de óleo de licuri (n= 4). As avaliações de peso corporal e de biometria testicular foram realizadas quinzenalmente. Após o período de confinamento, os animais foram abatidos para determinação do peso dos testículos, peso dos epidídimos e índice gonadossomático. A adição de óleo de licuri em até 4,5% na dieta de caprinos pré-púberes não alterou o desenvolvimento testicular com base nas características da biometria e morfometria testicular, indicando que a inclusão de até 4,5% de óleo de licuri na dieta pode ser utilizada.

A trial was carried out to identify the best level of licury (Syagrus coronata) oil in the diet of goats. Nineteen ¾ Boer male goats at three months of age were kept in individual pens. These animals were submitted to 75 days of confinement. The rations were composed of corn and soybean meal, Tifton 85 chopped hay and levels of licury oil (dry matter base). The animals were arranged in four groups according to the addition of licury oil to the diet: 0.0 (no oil inclusion, n= 5); or addition of 1.5 (n= 5); 3.0 (n= 5); or 4.5% licury oil. The evaluations of mean body weight and testicular biometry were performed weekly. After confinement, animals were slaughtered and the weight of the left and right testicles, left and right epididymal weight; and gonadosomatic index were determined. The addition of licury oil up to 4.5% to the diet of prepuberal male goats has not change the testicular development based on its biometrical and morphometrical parameters. It is suggested that licury oil can be added up to 4.5% to the diet of male goats.

Estudaram-se os efeitos da geleia real sobre a espermatogênese de coelhos tratados com diferentes concentrações de geleia real. Os tratamentos foram formados por três grupos: grupo-controle; grupo que recebeu 0,5mg/dia de geleia real; e grupo que recebeu 1,0mg/dia de geleia real. O estudo envolveu a morfometria testicular. Não houve diferença entre os tratamentos quanto aos pesos corporal (T1=3,20±0,19kg, T2=2,96±0,30kg e T3=3,21±0,37kg) e gonadal (T1=2,36±0,33g, T2=2,53±0,33g e T3=2,64±0,39g) e quanto aos índices gonadossomático (T1=0,15±0,02%, T2=0,17±0,03% e T3=0,16±0,02%) e tubulossomático (T1=0,06±0,01%; T2=0,07±0,01% e T3=0,06±0,01%). O diâmetro médio dos túbulos seminíferos (T1=225,95±13,27µm, T2=239,68±21,50µm e T3=231,57±15,94µm), a altura do epitélio seminífero (T1=66,05±5,37µm, T2= 73,47±9,11µm e T3=63,34±4,79µm) e o comprimento de túbulos seminíferos por testículo (T1=46,63±13,44m, T2=43,58±12,17m e T3=46,96±9,54m) e por grama de testículo (T1=19,50±2,68m, T2=17,12±3,91m e T3=17,78±1,98m) não diferiram entre tratamentos. Conclui-se que a suplementação com geleia real, nas doses utilizadas, não altera as características testiculares avaliadas.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of royal jelly on spermatogenesis in rabbits treated with different concentrations of RJ (Control; 0,5mg/day; and 1,0mg/day) using testicular morphometry. There was no significant difference between the body weight (T1= 3.20±0.19kg; T2= 2.96±0.30kg; T3=3.21±0.37kg) and gonadal weight (T1= 2.36±0.33g; T2= 2.53±0.33g; T3= 2.64±0.39g), gonadossomatic index (T1= 0.15±0.02%; T2= 0.17±0.03%. T3= 0.16±0.02%) and tubulossomatic index (T1= 0.06±0.01%; T2= 0.07±0.01%. T3= 0.06±0.01%) between treatments, showing that the percentage of body mass, and the percentage of seminiferous tubules allocated in testis were similar in the 3 experimental groups. Similarly, the mean diameter of the seminiferous tubules (T1= 225.95±13.27µm; T2=239.68±21.50µm; T3= 231.57±15,94µm), the height of the seminiferous epithelium (T1=66,05±5,37µm; T2=73.47±9.11µm; T3=63.34±4.79 µm) and length of seminiferous tubule for testis (T1=46.63±13.44m; T2=43.58±12.17m; T3=46.96±9.54m) and per gram of testis (T1=19.50±2.68m; T2=17.12±3.91m; T3=17.78±1.98m) did not differ statistically. It was concluded that supplementation with royal jelly, at the doses used, did not alter the testicular parameters evaluated here.

This study was conducted in order to verify the best level of palm kernel for sheep diet by intake, nutrient digestibility and blood parameters in terminated feedlot lambs. Twenty non-castrated Santa Inês lambs were fed diets with corn meal, soybean meal, Tifton 85 hay and palm kernel levels (0.0; 6.5; 13.00 and 19.5% in dry matter), as total mixed ration. The experiment lasted 24 days. For three consecutive days, feed, orts and faeces were sampled for determination of intake and nutrient digestibility. At the last day, blood was collected for plasma urea nitrogen and glucose. Dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP) and total digestive nutrients (TDN) expressed by g/day, body weight percentage (%BW) and grams per kg of metabolic weight (g/kg MW) intake were not influenced by palm kernel inclusion, while neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and ether extract (EE) increased with palm kernel levels and non-fibrous carbohydrate decreased. Digestibility coefficient of noncarbohydrate decreased as levels of palm kernel increased. Blood urea nitrogen and glucose levels were not influenced by the diets, however, diets promoted quadratic effect at post feeding. Up to 19.5% of palm kernel can be included in diets for lambs, with no effects on studied variables.

Este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de verificar o melhor nível de inclusão da torta de dendê por intermédio do consumo e da digestibilidade dos nutrientes e parâmetros sanguíneos em cordeiros terminados em confinamento. Utilizaram-se 20 animais inteiros, Santa Inês, alimentados com farelo de milho, farelo de soja, feno de tifton 85 e níveis de torta de dendê (0,0; 6,5;13,5 e 19,5% da matéria seca), em mistura completa. O período experimental teve duração de 24 dias. Durante três dias consecutivos, foram coletadas amostras do alimento, das sobras e fezes para determinação do consumo e da digestibilidade. No último dia, foram coletadas amostras de sangue para analise do N-uréico e glicose plasmático. Os consumos de matéria seca (MS), matéria orgânica (MO), proteína bruta (PB) e nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT), expressos em grama por dia (g/dia), porcentagem peso corporal (%PC) e grama por quilo peso metabólico (g/kgPM), não foram influenciados pela inclusão da torta de dendê, enquanto os de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) e extrato etéreo (EE) tiveram efeito linear crescente e os de carboidratos não fibrosos (CNF), decrescente, com a adição da torta. A inclusão da torta na alimentação proporcionou efeito linear decrescente para os coeficientes de digestibilidade de CNF. Não houve efeito de tratamento sobre os níveis de N-uréico e glicose sanguíneos, no entanto, foi observado efeito quadrático decrescente no período pós-prandial. Pode-se incluir até 19,5% da torta de dendê na dieta dos cordeiros, sem efeitos nas variáveis estudadas.

The effect of substitution of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) by follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in synchronization protocols of ovulation in dairy goats was evaluated. Twelve goats received intravaginal sponges impregnated with 60mg of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MAP) for 10 days. The sponges were removed and the animals were distributed into two groups (G): G1 (n=6) treated with 0.5mL of a synthetic analogue of PGF2 α and 100 IU of eCG for each 10kg weight, intramuscular injection (IM); and G2 (n=6) treated with 0.5mL of a synthetic analogue of PGF2α and 20mg of FSH (IM). All animals were monitored for estrus detection with aid of a ruffian after sponge removal. The ovarian dynamics were analyzed by ultrasound, since six hours after sponge removed. Each animal was analyzed in time elapsed of six hours until 12 hours after ovulation detection. For data analyses, the Wilcoxon test and variance analyses were used. There was not difference between the analyzed parameters (P>0.05). In this way, eCG can be replaced by FSH in synchronization protocols of ovulation in dairy goats.

Determinou-se o melhor teor de óleo de licuri na dieta por intermédio das características dos componentes corporais de caprinos jovens ¾ Boer. Foram utilizados 19 caprinos inteiros, com média de idade inicial de três meses e média de peso de 10,8kg. Os animais foram alimentados com feno de Tifton-85 e mistura concentrada com 0; 1,5; 3,0 e 4,5% de óleo de licuri. O experimento durou 60 dias; no último dia, os animais foram abatidos para avaliação das características dos componentes do peso corporal. O peso corporal ao abate, o peso de carcaça fria, o rendimento comercial, o rendimento de frigorificação, a área de olho de lombo, a proporção músculo:osso, os índices de compacidade de medidas biométricas, o peso dos cortes comerciais e o rendimento das vísceras comestíveis não carcaça não foram influenciados pela adição do óleo de licuri à dieta. O peso das vísceras comestíveis não carcaça e o índice de musculosidade do pernil sofreram influência negativa da adição do óleo na dieta. O óleo de licuri pode ser adicionado na dieta de caprinos jovens ¾ Boer até 4,5%, sem causar alterações significativas na carcaça

The best level of licury oil in the diet was evaluated by meat compounds of male young ¾ Boer goats. Nineteen goats were used, with initial weight of 10.8kg/LW. The animals were fed Tifton-85 hay and concentrated mix with 0.0, 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5% of licury oil. The experiment lasted 60 days and, on the last day, the animals were submitted to feed fasting and slaughtered, in order to evaluate the characteristics of the live weight components. The body weight at slaughter, carcass weight, commercial yield, freezing yield, loin eye area, muscle-bone ratio, compactness carcass index, biometric measurements, commercial cuts weights, and edible viscera yield were not influenced by the licury oil added to the diet. The edible viscera weight and ham muscularity index were negatively influenced by the oil. Then, it could be added to diet of young ¾ Boer goats up to 4.5% without causing significant changes in the carcass
